Alice Marie Buchanan, age 78, of Sanford entered into eternal rest on March 5, 2026 at Sanford Health and Rehab. She was born February 10, 1948 in Harnett County, daughter of the late Woodrow and Helen Marie Matthews Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Althea Powell. In 1963 she married Alfred Buchanan. It was a match meant to stand the test of time, and it did, for 62 years. She loved to go on car rides through the countryside and being outside and working in her flower garden was among her favorite things to do. She came from a large family, growing up with seven siblings.  She is survived by her husband, Alfred Buchanan of the home; sons, Anthony Dewayne Buchanan of Sanford and Alfred Ray Buchanan Jr. (Dawn) of Sanford; Also surviving are her brothers, Carl Smith, Lewis Ray Smith, John Wayne Smith, Woodrow Smith Jr. and Michael Smith; sisters, Faye Smith Knight and Frances Smith. She was also blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.  Visitation will be held Monday March 9, 2026, beginning at 11 am at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway NC. A funeral service will be conducted following the visitation at 12pm with her grandson, Pastor Andrew Orellana Sr. officiating.   Burial will be at Lee Memory Gardens.
