Alton Bernice Buchanan, age 71, of Broadway, died Tuesday (2/21/2012) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. He was born on August 9, 1940, son of the late Alton Lee Buchanan and Madie Thomas Buchanan. He was a graduate of Boone Trail High School and was preceded in death by his sisters Sophia B. McNeill and Faye Cotton. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 4pm at the Holly Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Parsons officiaiting. Burial will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Surviving are his wife Phyllis Thomas Buchanan of the home; Daughter Diane B. Simpson and husband Charlie Broadway, NC; Son Alton B. "Buck" Buchanan of Benson, NC; Sisters Vada B. Tingen of Broadway, NC, Arleen B. Crissman of Broadway,NC, Annie B. Seymore of Sanford,NC, Mary Lee Buchanan of Broadway,NC and Sue B. McNeill of Broadway,NC; One granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Holly Springs Baptist Church, 385 Holly Springs Church Road, Broadway, NC 27505.
