Ann Fraley Michael of Broadway, died Wednesday (1/21/2015) at her home. Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Raymond Fraley, the late Mary Rosser McLean, and the stepdaughter of the late Hugh McLean. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Michael, and a son, Russell Blair Catterton. Ann grew up in Washington, D.C., but loved Broadway and spent her childhood summers here with her Grandmother, Clara Rosser and her dear cousin Martha Buchanan Gaddy. Each year she would cry when it was time to leave, always wishing to live in Broadway. In 1979 she made it her permanent home. She was an elder at the Broadway Presbyterian Church and served six years as Clerk of Session. She as a member of the Woman's Club of Broadway and served terms as secretary and as vice president. She was devoted to her son, his wife and their family, and nothing gave her greater love and happiness than spending time with her grandchildren at any opportunity. She would say: "I need some hugs" and drove the long trip to Florida many times a year just to spend time watching them grow, taking great delight in all that they accomplished, and, of course getting those hugs. When not able to be there, she stayed in constant touch, keeping up with their grades, interest and activities, and loved passing along those stories to her friends. Ann is survived by her son, Robert E. Catterton, Jr. and wife Kelly of St. Petersburg, Florida; Sisters Mary Mashburn and husband Jeff of Broadway, NC, Janet Stout and husband Morgan of Fort Payne, Alabama, and Jean Chipouras and husband Steve of Dunkirk, Maryland; Grandchildren Samantha Catterton, Robert E. Catterton III, and Jessica Catterton of St. Petersburg, Florida and by two nieces and a nephew. Also surviving are special friends Sharon and James Seagroves of Sanford. Funeral serives will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday at the Broadway Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Harold Stone officiating. Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.
