Barbara J. Kochenberger, age 79 of Sanford, died Friday (8/27/2021) at Sanford Health and Rehab. She was born on May 14, 1942, daughter of the late Boyd Helmig and Thelma Baclesse Helmig.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Karen Kay and Dwight Helmig.  Barbara enjoyed cooking, gardening and caring for her grandchildren.  She also loved to spend time with her husband doing their wood working projects and she loved to swim.  A memorial service will be conducted at 11am Friday (9/3/2021) at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garland Smith officiating.  Surviving is her husband, Richard Kochenberger of the home.  Daughter, Tammy Toby and husband Shawn of Bowling Green, KY.  Sons, James Allen Kochenberger and wife Michelle of Fuquay Varina, NC and Kurt Kochenberger and wife Lori of Braidwood, Ill.  Sisters, Mary Jo, Ronda, Ruth Ann, Brenda and brother Dwayne.  Grandchildren, Amanda, JoAmber, Ashley, Kaitlynn, Hannah,  Marschall, Griffin and great-grandchildren, Sloane and Lilith.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
