Obituary

Billy Banks Boggs, age 90 of Sanford, died Wednesday (3/31/2021) at First Health Hospice in Pinehurst.  He was born in Lee County, son of Robert Franklin Boggs and Camilla Cox Boggs.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Billy Banks Boggs, Jr., Sister Minnie L. Angell, Betty Jean Boggs Beal and brothers, Robert Boggs, Ed Boggs, Albert Boggs, William Boggs and Richard Boggs. Billy was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Sanford Produce Company.  Graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm Saturday at the Juniper Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. J. Scott Finicum officiating.  Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Libby Thomas Boggs of the home.  Daughter, Marilyn Hunter and husband R. Merrill Hunter, MD of Raleigh, NC.  Son, Carl W. Boggs and wife Bonnie of Sanford, NC.  Grandchildren, Cameron Boggs, DMV, Casey Boggs (Kylei), Katie Cecil (Sean), Christopher Hunter, MD (Janel, MD), Matthew Hunter (Laura) and Anna Underwood (Cody) and great-grandchildren, Wilhelmina (Minnie), Hugo, James, Thomas, Adalyn, Joni, Amelia and Olivia.    Friends may visit the funeral home on Friday and Saturday from 9am-12pm to sign the register and pay their respects.  In accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, masks are requested for the services. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations are made to Broadway United Methodist Church or C.A.R.A (Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption) in Sanford.    Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
