Branton Hiram Thomas, age 85, formerly of Broadway, died Thursday (3/4/2021) at Oak Hill Assisted Living in Angier.  He was born in Harnett County, son of the late Hiram B. Thomas and Cornelia Clark Thomas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roy M. Thomas Sr., Holloway Thomas and Bill Thomas, Sisters Nancy T. Cameron, Betty Lou Rogers, Step-mother Jessie Holloway Thomas and his wife, Helen T. Thomas.  Branton retired from the City of Sanford with over 30 years of service and enjoyed growing Parks Whopper Tomatoes.   Graveside services will be conducted at 4pm Sunday at Broadway Town Cemetery with Rev. Garland Smith officiating.  Surviving is his daughter, Brenda T. Walden.  Grandson, Brian N. Sykes, Granddaughter, Catherine Webb, Sister, Phyllis Thomas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Friends may visit the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway on Sunday between the hours of 12:00pm-3:00pm to sign the register and pay their respects.
