Brenda J. Quist, age 83 of Broadway, NC passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Central Carolina Hospital with her loving family by her side. Brenda was born in Pima County, Arizona to the late Gail Emil Keyser and Lorena Mae McBride Keyser. She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Richard Quist and her sister, Kay Lynn Genio. She is survived by her brother, Emil Keyser and wife Nancy, sister Karen Ramsey, daughter Dawn Quist, son Jon Quist and wife Nichole and former daughter-in-law, Jane Quist; grandchildren, Kristi Hunt Moon (Justin), Joshua Ryan Harrington (Kayla), Jodi Lynn Harrington, Brittany Quist (Cheyenne), Payton Quist, Reece Miller (Bailey), Steffanie Johnson (Evan) and twelve great-grandchildren. Brenda grew up as the daughter of an army officer, living in various locations around the world, including Trinidad, Tobago, Germany and California where she graduated from high school. After graduation, she joined the United States Air Force and met the love of her life, Richard at Lackland AFB. They were married in 1962, and she was honorably discharged from the USAF to begin a challenging life as a military spouse. She endured multiple relocations and solo parenting during her husband's frequent deployments and long absence during the Korean and Vietnam wars. After her husband's death in 2000, she returned to California to be a care-giver for her aging stepmother, Virginia Keyser. She returned to North Carolina in 2018 to live with her family. She was a member of the American legion and Gold Star Wives Club and spent her latter years, quietly knitting scarves to donate to the Salvation Army and supporting various other charities focused on helping veterans. Her commitment reflected her deep sense of service and compassion as well as a deep sense of patriotism and it is the legacy of commitment and acts of charity, she instilled in her children whom she loved and the lives she touched. The family will receive friends at Kristi and Justin's home, 3382 Buickhorn Road, Sanford, NC 27330 from 3:00pm to 6:30pm following the services as there will be no formal visitation. Funeral service will also be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 2:00pm at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Pastor Chris Pipes of Crossroads Ministry officiating. Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to any charitable organization of your choice in memory of Brenda.
