Cecil Lynn Barker, age 60, died Saturday (6/1/2013) at his home. He was born on February 2, 1953, son of the late Geneva Maxine Drier and McKenzie Barker. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving honorably as an Electrical Craftsman from 1971-1975 aboard the USS Little Rock, a Galveston Class guided missile cruiser, which was the Flag Ship of the US Navy Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea. He was last employed with Vanderbilt Homes as a foundation finisher. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30am Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake at 12:00pm. Surviving is his wife of 18 years, Patricia H. Barker of the home; Daughter Jennifer Clifton of Sanford, NC; Sisters Donna Cleveland of Wisconsin, Dawn Drier of Virginia; Brothers Kenny Barker of Florida, Richard Barker of North Dakota, Roderick Barker of Louisiana and Daniel Drier of Virginia; Granddaughter Chandler Chuman. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 am on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family has asked that donations be sent to Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 370 Broadway, NC 27505 to assist with expenses. Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
