Clemellyn "Clem" Hunter Welch, age 68 of Broadway, died Friday (5/3/2013) at her home. She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Lewis Clemmons Hunter and Audrey Juanita Womack Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William "Bill" Kenyon Welch. She was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Campbell University. She was retired from Central Carolina Community College where she served as a Lead Instructor for the English Department. She was a Broadway Town Commissioner and had previously served as chair of the Broadway Planning Board and as a member of the UDO Joint Planning Board. She as a member and Past President of the Broadway Woman's Club and attended Crossroads Ministries. Funeral services will be conducted at 4pm Monday at Crossroads Ministries with Rev. John Sauls officiating. Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery. Surviving are her daughter Wendy Welch Bryan and husband Carl of Broadway, NC; Brother Lewis Carlton Hunter of Sanford, NC and grandchildren Pait Bryan and Carrie Ellen Bryan. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Sunday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and other times at the family home.
