Obituary

On July 1, 2025, Cortize Thomas "Ike" Berryman of Lee County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Ike was a farmer at heart. He spent much of his life working the land across Harnett and Lee Counties, learning the ropes early on with guidance from Jeff Buchanan. In the late 1970s, Ike began farming hogs and cattle and later grew tobacco—all while holding down steady public work. His career included time at Lee Brick and Boise Cascade. Ike never shied away from hard work, balancing farming and employment to provide for his family. Alongside his beloved wife Sandra "Rabbit" Berryman, Ike raised four sons. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and found great joy in simple pleasures. In retirement, his love for his family only deepened. No matter life's challenges, his devotion to them remained constant. Ike is survived by his sons: Frank T. Berryman (Teddi), Mike Berryman (Sonya), Ed Ray Berryman (Sow), and David Berryman; and his devoted caregiver, Kelli Adcock. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Franki and Sandi Berryman, Gaige and Remington Berryman, Gavin and Molly Gilchrist, and Caroline Berryman; his great-granddaughter, Braelynn Berryman and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank T. and Lucy Berryman; his wife, Sandra "Rabbit" Watson Berryman; grandson, Josh K. Wilson; and siblings Frances Shipper, Frankie Liendo, Betty Lou Berryman, and Pete Berryman.
Ike will be remembered for his strength, his work ethic, and the deep love he held for his family and community.
