D. Harold Harrington, age 89 of Broadway, died Wednesday (3/1/2017) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. Harold was born in Lee County, son of the late D.O. Harrington and Annie Underwood Harrington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Paul, Fred, Mac and Larry Harrington and sisters Inez McLeod, Beulah Buchanan, Nell Shaw, Ethel Baggett, Till Lawson and Allie Wade. He was a Veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #382 and served as a Post Commander of VFW Post #5631. He retired as Vice President of First Citizens Bank. He served on the Broadway Planning Board, as Police Commissioner and Mayor of Broadway. He was a Past Vice President of the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce, and Past President of the Sanford Exchange Club. He was also a member of the San-Lee Investment Company, Inc., was a volunteer at Central Carolina Hospital, was an Elder at the Broadway Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the Saturday night dances at the Lee County Enrichment Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Saturday at the Broadway Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Rodda and Dr. Harold Stone officiating. Burial will follow in the Shallow Well Church Cemetery. Surviving is his sister in laws, Polly Harrington and Carolyn Harrington both of Broadway, NC. Niece Jane Quist of Broadway and Nephews Alan Shaw of West End, NC, David Harrington of Broadway and several great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00pm at the Broadway Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
