Daniel John Mayer, age 87 of Cameron, passed away on Sunday (3/5/2023) at Fox Hollow Assisted Living in Pinehurst.  He was born on June 28, 1935 in New Rochelle, NY, son of the late Otto Fredreich Mayer and Margaret Helen McNulty Mayer.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters Lana Wilhoit and Shelly Morris; son, Glenn Mayer and sisters Fredricka Edwards and Barbara Moriarty.  Daniel was retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service.  He enjoyed model airplanes, puzzles, painting, horticulture, and landscaping.  He loved his family and church and was an avid fan of  Rush Limbaugh.  The family will receive friends on Thursday (3/9/2023) from 2-3pm at the Countryside Presbyterian Church in Cameron, NC.  Funeral services will be at 3pm with Pastor Dave Kinney officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.  Surviving is his wife, Barbara Mayer of the home.  Daughters, Jan Letterman (Mike) of Hendersonville, TN, and Angela Penuel of Hendersonville, TN.  Sons, Donny Terrell (Ashley) of Cameron, NC, Don Mayer of Arizona, and many grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial gifts be made to St. Jude, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
