Denton "David" Whitaker, age 66 of Broadway, died Thursday (4/25/2019) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.  He was born on March 3, 1953, son of the late Denton Welton Whitaker and Eugenia Powell Whitaker Harvey.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Carl Whitaker.  David was a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served 25 years retiring as M.Sgt. He was also retired from the Lee County Sheriff's Department and was a member of Friendship Masonic Lodge No. 763 AF&AM.  Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm Sunday (4/28/2019) at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garland Smith officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery.    Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Lorraine Shirley Whitaker of the home.  Only son, Davin Whitaker and wife Sarah of Broadway, NC and their son, grandson Ayden Whitaker.  Sister Shirley Lucas and husband Tom of Marietta, GA and Brother Gary Harvey of Albany, GA.   The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Saturday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home, Broadway.
