Donald Ray Schoolcraft, age 71 of Sanford, passed away on Sunday (5/10/2026) at his home with his family by his side, after battling cancer for seven years. He was born in Lee County, son of the late William Schoolcraft and Lola Holt Stone. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his stepfather, Tom Stone. Donald attended Lee Senior High School and Central Carolina Community College. He worked at Kelly Tire and Federal Spinning before being self-employed and owning Sanford Lawn and Tree, Don's Small Engines, various clubs and finally Schooly's Bar and Billiard. He loved fishing, caring for the cats in his neighborhood, music, dancing and creating fun environments for people. He married Donna Currin on August 11, 1973, in Smithfield and they began life together, with a marriage that was blessed with 53 years. He is survived by his wife Donna Currin Schoolcraft; son, Chris Schoolcraft; brother, Billy Schoolcraft (Patty) and his grandsons, Christopher Zan Schoolcraft and Diego Levi Schoolcraft. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Any memorials or contributions can be sent to Amedisys Hospice.
