Obituary

Dougal Wesley Buie, age 71 of Broadway, passed away on Wednesday (3/8/2023) at Liberty Commons in Sanford.  He was born on September 23, 1951, son of the late Johnson Buie and Flossie Harrington Buie.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Van Buie, niece Carmen Dale Buie Collins, sister-in-law, Mary Byrd Harrington and brother-in-law, Mitchell Eugene Taylor.   DW graduated from Benhaven High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  After graduating, he taught school in Cumberland County at Ireland Drive Middle School and in Lee County  at Greenwood and East Lee Middle School.  He also coached the girls' basketball team at Greenwood.  He later became a co-owner of the Country Junction in Selma and Charlotte where he sold antiques, crafts, and flower arrangements which he was well known for making.  He later returned to Sandhills Community College where he earned a degree in respiratory therapy.  He worked as a registered respiratory therapist at Central Carolina Hospital and Wake Medical Center from which he retired.  DW helped to raise produce for Buie Farms and on his days off he made flower arrangements for family and friends.  He was a lifetime member of Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church.  He is survived by his sisters, Glenda B. Taylor and Sue Buie of Broadway, NC.  Brother, Larry Wayne Harrington of Clinton, NC. Sister-in-law, Janice Buie of Broadway, NC.   Niece, Kelly Buie Jones (Josh), Nephews, Mitchell Taylor, Darren Harrington (Ashley) and Brian Harrington (Tammy).  Great-nephews Darren Collins, Easton Jones, Carl Collins, Colby Hales, Seth Harrington, Ben Harrington, and great-nieces, Ellie Harrington,  Kate Harrington and Laci Collins.  The family will receive friends from 11:00-11:45am Saturday at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church with the funeral service to be held at 12:00pm with Rev. Doug Houston officiating.    Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Gerard O'Donnell and Staff, Central Carolina Hospital, Central Harnett Hospital, Westfield Rehab, Liberty Commons and Liberty Hospice staff, Emily Hyatt, Kristina Childress, and Lorena Duran for all the love and care given to DW.   Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
