Ernest Ray Clemens, age 80 of Sanford, died Monday (10/04/2021) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.  He was born on December 10, 1940, son of the late Franklin Clemens and Elverda Freed Clemens.  He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.  Ernest was very active in Crossroads Ministries in Broadway and loved his church family.  He enjoyed sports, especially watching his favorite teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies.  He moved to North Carolina in 2015 with his wife and enjoyed living in Sanford.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was also known as Paw-Paw and Pop- Pop to his loving family.  A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.  Surviving is his wife of 39 years, Sharon S. Clemens of Sanford, NC.  Daughters, Crista Reid and fiancé,  Robert Carmin and Kimberly Clemens of Gibsonville, NC.  Son, Chris Hipszer and wife Amy of Sanford, NC.  Sisters, Miriam Brunstetter of Pennsylvania and Susie Derstine of Florida.  Grandchildren, Jessica Isley (Jerry), Summer Rogers (Matt), Patrick Stretz, Kai Hipszer, Kayden Hipszer, Nathan Hipszer and great-grandchildren, Dalton Isley.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
