Evelyn Brown Sloan, age 97 of Sanford, died Thursday (9/15/2016) at Peak Resources Pinelake in Carthage. She was born on April 25, 1919 daughter of the late Lettie Brown Cox Taylor. She was preceded in death by her mother and Step-father Ralph W. Taylor and her husband Marvin Vance Sloan. Evelyn worked for many years at Cornell Dubilier and retired from the Lee County School System. She was the oldest member of the Salem Presbyterian Church where she received the Honorary Life Membership from the Women of the Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm, Saturday at the Salem Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tyler A. Williams and Rev. Norman Whitney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are her sons Bruce Sloan and wife Alice of Cary, Allen M. Sloan and wife Debbye of Sanford and Wayne Sloan Sr. and wife Sally of Durham; Daughters Brenda Sloan Hicks and husband Coy of Broadway and Sarah Sloan Batson of Wilmington; Six grandchildren, Larry Wayne Sloan Jr., Sheila Sloan Duncan, Greg Sloan, Brent Sloan, Chad Oates and David Oates; Thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the Salem Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
