George Donald Collins, age 76 of Maysville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday (12/7/2018) at his home with his family by his side. George, who was known to many as "Duck" was born in Jones County on July 6, 1942, son of the late Myral Collins and Ethel C. Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Lionel Collins and Bobby Collins. George was a graduate of Jones Central High School Class of 1960, and Miller Motte Business School and was Veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam. He served as Sunday school superintendent and on the finance board while a member of the Garner Free Will Baptist Church. He was a Deacon as well as a member of Maccripine Free Will Baptist Church and also served as a Deacon at Cardinal Village Free Will Baptist Church. He was a member of New Life Church in New Bern where he sang in the choir. George had a forty-two year career in the aggregate business beginning with Superior Stone and then Martin Marietta Materials. He held several different positions within the company but when he retired, he was the area production manager with the coastal district. He was a man that was dedicated to the Lord, his family and friends, and his company. He was a blessing to all that knew him. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm Thursday (12/13/2018) at New Life Church in New Bern with Rev. Scott Coghill, Rev. Woody Whitt and Rev. David Adams officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Maysville Town Cemetery. Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Margaret Collins of the home. Son, Donald Vance Collins and wife April Smith Collins of Broadway, NC. Granddaughters Anna Delayne Collins and Megan Elisabeth Collins. Brothers Alvis Collins and Skeet Collins, both of New Bern. Sister in law Alyce Collins of Maysville, NC and his Aunt, Addie Ruth Collins of Pollocksville, NC and special neighbors who became family, Randy, Michelle, Miranda and Ryan Holland. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and on Thursday from 12:00pm -1:00pm at New Life Church, one hour prior to the funeral service. Flowers are welcome, and memorials can be made to 3HC Hospice in Pollocksville, NC or to New Life Church Building Fund.
