George Melvin Thompson, age 83 of Sanford, passed away on Thursday (8/1/2019) in Sanford.  George retired from the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and a recipient of a Bronze Star.  He also retired from Civil Service and taught at Central Carolina Community College.  Funeral services will be held at 10am on Tuesday (8/6/2019) at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Army Honor Guard.  Surviving is his wife Rebecca Thompson of the home.  Daughters Tricia Tetro and husband Daniel of Clayton, NC and Sara Myers and husband Daniel of Greensboro.  Grandchildren Skylar Lani Tetro, Daniel Anthony Tetro and Lillian Diane Tetro.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
