George Kenneth Weise, age 97 of Sanford, died Monday (3/4/2019) at his home.  He was born on April 9, 1921, son of the late John Joseph Weise and Barbara Antonia Forst Weise.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward Weise and his wife of 70 years, Jean May Smith Weise.  George was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II.  He was the last survivor off of the USS Yorktown at the Battle of Midway.  His family and friends will have a celebration of life service to honor him.  Surviving are his daughters Carolyn Jean Weise of Cape Coral, FL, Donna Torre-Fancher of Sanford, NC and Dale Susan Tulio of Harrisonburg, VA; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorials are made to the Wounded Warriors.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
