Gerald "Jerry" Stitt, age 88 of Broadway, died Sunday (11/7/2021) at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg. He was born on May 3, 1933, son of the late Earnest Stitt and Rosalie Burns Stitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Debra Wilson and sister Pam Atkins. Jerry was retired from the United States Air Force. He also was a regional operations manager with McDonald's Corporation as well H&K Dallas. Jerry was a kindhearted man who never met a stranger. Other than the love for his family, his two other great loves were daily lottery tickets and the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry was an avid Cowboys fan years before he even lived in the great State of Texas! Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will be held on Tuesday (11/16/2021) at 3:00pm at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, Virginia. Surviving is his wife, Penny Cochran Stitt of the home. Daughters, Shaness Farrell (Peter) of Princeton, NJ, Andree Robinson (Ronnie) of Whitter, NC and Jeri Johnson of Dallas, Texas. Son, Randall Stitt (Amy) of Atlanta, GA. Sister, Andrea Amerson of Woodstock, GA, Debbie Bryant of Gaylesville, AL. Brother, Jack Stitt (Lois) of Arkansas. Grandchildren, Virginia Farrell, Susan Farrell, Blair Russo, Kelly Lehmann, Clayton Robinson, Brandee Robinson, Janel Mortenson, Kelsey McKeaige, Cody Johnson and ten great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday at 1:00pm at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway, prior to the funeral service and immediately following the service at the home of Ken and Carol Jones on First Street in Broadway. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 370 Broadway, NC 27505 to assist with funeral expenses.
