Gerda Wilking Thiedemann, age 88, of Broadway, NC passed away on Tuesday,

July 11, 2023.  She was born in Germany on October 4, 1934, daughter of the late Henry Wilking and Marth Engelke Wilking.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry Thiedemann, sister, Ellie Wolter, and her grandchildren, Taya Clifford and Jeremiah Lehner.  Gerda's greatest joy was her family.  She enjoyed gardening, baking, playing board games and various puzzles and spending time with her precious dog, Toby.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She always had a smile on her face.

She is survived by her children, Werner Thiedemann and wife Roxann of Braham, MN; Detlev Thiedemann and wife Holly of Sanford, NC; Karen Formica of Pompano Beach, FL; Rita Cortese and husband Ken her "favorite son-in-law" of Kernersville, NC; and Kenneth Thiedemann of Middlesex, NJ.  Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Irmi Stelljes of Middlesex, NJ and Ursula Fabricius of Bradenton, FL; her eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.  Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2023 at Broadway Presbyterian Church, 211 So. Main Street, Broadway, NC with Rev. Dr. Harold Stone officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Gerda's memory to the JR Poe Therapy Dog Ministry, 104 Fiddler Drive, Broadway, NC 27505 ( JR and his rescue dog Lucky were Gerda's neighbors) ; or to the Lee County Animal Shelter, 1450 No. Horner Blvd., Sanford, NC 27330.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com
