Grissella S. McCormick Jones, affectionally know as "Doy" , passed away with her family and friends surrounding her February 17, 2013, after 10 years of declining health at the age of 94. She was preceded in death her her father and mother, James and Mary Belle Morris McCormick, sisters Lila May Journey, Elizabeth M. Bell, Lou Anne Hinkle and Mary Belle Chandler, Brothers John Martin McCormick, Robert A. McCormick, Archie McCormick, her husband Junius Culbreth (J.C.) Jones Jr. and her beloved son, James Halford Jones in 2007. Doy was raised up on the McCormick Plantation on McCormick Road near Barbecue Church in Harnett County, NC. She returned there often to the home place while in good health. She loved the farm and had a true devotion for farming and a great love for animals. Her kids would always be bringing a stray home and knew that she could not say no to a starving animal. She saved many along the way and instilled that love for animals in her children as well. She was pretty, tough, kind and good all wrapped into one. She would tell it like it was but would always be there for you if you needed her. She was born in 1918 and was one of the few left from the "greatest generation." She worked along with her siblings on the family's farm. She could run as fast as any boy around these parts and would stand up for herself! She was a graduate of Benhaven High School, graduating in the Class of 1937. She worked at Fort Bragg during WWII and continued there working as an X-Ray Technician up until the untimely death of her husband who died of a heart attack in 1965. She was a loving mother of four young kids, a friend to many and never knew a stanger. After her husband died, she began working at the US Postal Service as a Clerk in Broadway and did this until she retired in 1982. She never complained nor asked for any help. She was just a good hearted soul, and we were blessed to be able to call her our Mom. To her final days, she personified grace and beauty. She had an inner strength and resolve that remained throughout of her life. And as difficult as things became for her in her final years, she never lost those qualities, and she never complained. Her sense of humor and her gentle touch will never be forgotten. She is survived by her daughters Mary Lou Jones of the home, Charlotte Jones Harrington and husband Gary C. Harrington and son Robert Jones and wife Judy. Grandson James Robert Jones and Susie Isenhour and husband Chris. Also, surviving is a sister, Lois M. Roseman. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm Wednesday at the Broadway United Methodist Church with Rev. J.H. Daniels and Rev. Sandy Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 12-2:00pm in the Fellowship Hall of the Broadway United Methodist Church, prior to the funeral service and other times at the famly home, 104 Oakland Avenue Broadway In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice of Sanford, Broadway United Methodist Church, Barbecue Presbyterian Church or to Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) of Lee County, NC. Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
