Harry Reginald "Jay" Saunders, age 81 of Broadway, passed away on Friday (02/10/2023) at the Durham VA Medical Center.  He was born in Danville, Virginia, son of the late Harry Willie Saunders and Elizabeth Gertha Perry Saunders.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Diane Josey.  "Jay" was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving at San Antonio and Rhein-Main Air Base in Germany.  After serving in the military, he worked as a terminal manager for Brown Trucking which is what brought him and his family to Broadway.  He later retired from McLaurin Trucking and was a partner at Glass Container Transport.  He enjoyed working in the yard and was a lifelong UNC Tarheels fan.  Surviving are his daughters, Lori S. Andrews and husband Donald of Broadway, NC and Jennifer S. Brown of Sanford, NC.  Sisters, Mabel Tingen of Roxboro, NC and Edith Gentry (Frank) of Yanceyville, NC. Significant other of many years, Sue Baynes of Danville, VA. Grandchildren, Jacob Neill Morrison (Megan Hall), Dylan Saunders Andrews, Kenzie Jayde Oldham, Jaxon Reese Brown and great-grandchildren, Caden and Connor Morrison.  The family will receive friends on Saturday (02/18/2023) from 11:00 am-12:00pm at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.  Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00pm Saturday at the funeral home chapel and burial with military honors will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Carolina Veterans Memorial, PO Box 1285 Broadway, NC 27505.Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
