Obituary

Hazel Louise Byrd Thomas, age 81, of Greensboro, formerly of Lillington, passed away on April 26, 2024.  On this day God closed her weary eyes and wrapped her in his arms and whispered "Come to me".  Hazel was born in Harnett County, on November 15, 1942, daughter to the late Bertha Seeday Byrd Wright and James Everette Byrd.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first son, Donald Ray Thomas II., her beloved husband, Donald Ray Thomas Sr., and siblings, Bobby Byrd, Bernice Byrd, Charles Byrd, Herman Byrd and Jerry Byrd.  Hazel's career in the food and hospitality industry spanned over 25 years, earning her a no holds bar sense of humor and all adoring her contagious smile and bray laughter.  She also took on many passions, one of which was her gift to sing and was in a Trio Choir.    Oh, how she loved to sing Patsy Cline songs.  She had a big heart and found comfort and peace caring for stray animals.   Hazel's spiritual journey was built on the Baptist faith and the teachings of Christ.  She made a huge and lasting impact on so many family members, loved ones and friends throughout her life.  Remembered for her Big Personality, sharp wit, silly jokes and her generosity.  She could light up any room.   Hazel was married to the love of her life, Donald Ray Thomas Sr. for 63 years and they were inseparable.  She was the most loving wife, mother and nanny.  Surviving are her daughters, LaDonna Thomas Reeves of Randleman, NC and Angelia Thomas Young (Steve) of Greer, SC.  Son, Donald Ray Thomas III of South Carolina; Grandchildren, Joseph Reeves of Pleasant Garden, NC, Erik Reeves of Raleigh, NC, Ryan Reeves of Ernul, NC, Devin Reeves of Randleman, NC, Christian Brondell of South Carolina, Dakota Thomas Solesbee of Inman, SC, Brittany Thomas of Lexington, NC, Josh Thomas of Greensboro, NC and twenty great-grandchildren.  "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine", Momma.  The family will receive friends on Saturday (5/4/2024) at 11:00am at Baptist Chapel Church, 2413 Buckhorn Road, Sanford, NC 27330.  The funeral service will follow at 12:00pm with Rev.
