Obituary

James Lloyd "Pop" Moore, age 88 of Broadway, passed away on Saturday (8/9/2025) at his home.  He was born on December 7, 1936, son of the late Willie Carson Moore and Beulah Ryals Moore.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joan Vaughan Moore; siblings, Gilbert Moore, Katherine Faircloth and Lillian Reeves; and step-father, C.B. "Make" Knight.   James was a veteran of the United States Air Force and for more than 26 years was the owner and operator of K&M Grocery with his wife Joan.   Pop was a man who loved all sports.  He enjoyed weekly golf outings with his friends, and was a leader in the Moore Family Fun Day events.  He was a friend of many in the community, and enjoyed attending weekly services at Mount Pisgah Presbyterian Church.  Pop liked to work in the yard, especially in his garden during the summer season and loved his animals which included his rescue dog, Birdie.    He loved to make people laugh, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He is survived by his children, Cindy Godwin (Buddy), Karen Marosites (Bret), Jimmy Moore and Timmy Moore (Sheila Patterson); sisters, Eunice Woodard and Doris Kelly (Billy); grandchildren, Holly Marosites ( Jeremy Thomas), Brittany Godwin, Bradley Godwin (Shannon Blair) , Benjamin Marosites (Shiloh Burgreen), Olivia Strickland (Skyler) and Carson Moore (Makenzie); great-grandchildren, Hayden Strickland, Miles Moore, Fletcher Strickland; and his beloved dog Birdie.  The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday (8/12/2025) at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.  Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm on Wednesday (8/13/2025) at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church with Rev. Doug Houston officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Memorial gifts can be made to Mt.
