James Watson Nordan

James Watson Nordan, age 93, of Pittsboro, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 31st, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Harnett County, Watson was the son of the late Duncan James Nordan and Laylon Patterson Nordan. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 70 years, Kathleen Brown Nordan; his parents; his brother, Ernest Nordan; and his sisters, Theta Foushee, and infant sister Annie Laurie Nordan.

After graduating from Boone Trail High School, Watson proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he met and married the love of his life, Kathleen Brown. He began a distinguished 35-year career in the banking industry, rising through progressive leadership roles and retiring as Vice President of First Federal Savings and Loan. Watson was deeply committed to being of service to others and his life reflected his deep love for community, service, and fellowship.

Watson lived his faith with quiet strength and unwavering devotion. A dedicated ambassador for Jesus Christ, he reflected his beliefs in every aspect of his life. As a longtime member of Pittsboro United Methodist Church, he cherished his Adult Men’s Sunday School class and the fellowship of worship services. He found simple joy in tending to his yard, often seen mowing grass or gathering pinecones with his laundry basket and rope—an image his family will forever treasure.

A gifted guitar player, Watson spent 18 years sharing gospel music with the musical group, Front Porch Ministries. Their music brought comfort, hope, and happiness to retirement centers, nursing homes, churches, and civic organizations throughout the community. Their ministry was a blessing to many and a source of immense joy for Watson.

Watson is survived by his two loving daughters, Connie Cameron (Jeff) of Sanford and Kay Farrell of Chapel Hill. He was the proud “Papa” to four grandchildren—Ashley Punte (Mike), Duncan Adam Cameron (Jenn), Ace Farrell (Allison), and Skyler Mansfield (Nick)—and four great-grandchildren: Loralii, Piper, Saylor, and Banks. He is also survived, by two sisters, Elaine O’Quinn of Lillington, and Elizabeth Thomas (Vernard) of Graham. His family was his greatest earthly blessing, and he loved each of them deeply.

Service Information

A Celebration of Life will be held at Pittsboro United Methodist Church, 71 West Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312, on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, at 11:00am, where Watson worshiped faithfully for 66 years. A visitation with family and friends will follow the service in the Christian Life Center and at other times at the home.

Donations can be made in Watson’s honor to UNC Hospice. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Pat Lynch, Cynthia Royals, Brittany Strunks, and Marilyn Ellis for their exceptional compassion, dedication, and loving care shown to Watson and his family.
