John S. Collins, age 92 of Broadway, died Wednesday (9/22/2021) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.  He was born on April 11, 1929, son of the late James Sidney Collins and Ethel Evelyn Buchanan Collins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 64 years, Alberta Parker Collins and his siblings, Thomas Collins, Donald Ray Collins, Clayton Scott Collins,  Halford Collins, Samuel Collins, Royce Collins and Ida Helen Brown.  John was a graduate of Lafayette High School, a member of Broadway Baptist Church and was a founding member of the Cape Fear Fire Department, serving for over thirty years.    Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm Sunday at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev.  Dr. Larry Pittman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery.  Surviving is his daughter, Vivian Denise Clark and husband Gerald of Broadway, NC.  Son, James Cleveland Collins and wife Linda of Broadway, NC, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  The family will receive friends following the service at the family home.  Friends may also visit the Smith Funeral Home on Saturday between the hours of 2-4pm to sign the register and pay their respects.
