John Thaddese "Johnny" Stewart, age 63 of Sanford, passed away on Wednesday (1/8/2020).  He was born on December 31, 1956, son of Mattie Belle Patterson Stewart and the late Henry Douglas Stewart.  He was preceded in death by his father.  Johnny was a founding member of the Broadway Optimist Club.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing golf and softball and coaching his daughter's sports teams.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Monday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating.  Burial will follow in the Stewart Family Cemetery.  Surviving is his mother, Mattie Belle Patterson Stewart of Broadway.  Daughter Leslie Stewart of Sanford, NC.  Brother Doug Stewart and wife Karen of Sanford, NC.  Sisters Delores Patterson and husband Johnny and Cindy McDougald all of Sanford, NC.   Girlfriend Carla Pigford Peters of West Virginia and his nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends from 1-2pm Monday at the Smith Funeral Home Broadway, one hour prior to the funeral service.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorials are made to the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 370 Broadway, NC 27505 to help with funeral expenses.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
