Joseph (Joey) Edward Hamilton, Sr. age 80, of Mamers, NC, passed away on March 20, 2023, with his wife by his side.

He was born on January 16, 1943 in Goldsboro, NC to the late Robert L. Hamilton and Louise Brown Hamilton.  He worked for Saco-Lowell in Sanford for approximately 8 years before joining the USAR in 1967.  He served in the USAR as a Specialist Four and was honorably discharged in 1973; he received the Expert M14 Rifle award while serving.  Later he worked for Weyerhaeuser and Sierra Pines in Moncure for nearly 25 years.  After retirement he worked for Walmart in Sanford for 7 years.  In his early years he enjoyed working on cars in the family garage with his brothers and son.  He enjoyed repairing computers for family and friends.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was loved by his family and friends.  He was a member of Christian Chapel Missionary Church in Lillington.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Ann Poindexter Hamilton; son, Joseph Hamilton, Jr. (Denise) of Sanford, daughter, Deborah Stewart (Hughie) of Coats; grandchildren, Haley Stewart, Dylan Hamilton, and Hughie Stewart IV; brothers, Robert (Bobby) Hamilton (Norma) and Donnie Hamilton (Exie); sisters, Jeannie Murray and Patsy Thomas (Harry).  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held on Thursday (3/23/2023) at 12:00pm at Christian Chapel Missionary Church in Lillington with Pastor Harry Thomas officiating.    The family will receive friends one hour prior the funeral service in the church sanctuary.
