Joyce Irene Schooley Womack, age 89 of Linden, formerly of Broadway, passed away on Thursday (12/28/2023) at Universal Healthcare in Lillington. Joyce Irene Schooley Womack was born on January 13, 1934 in the southern part of Manitoba, Canada. Her mother was Grace Irene Tamlin Schooley and her father was Herbert Horatius Schooley. Joyce grew up with seven siblings in Bowsman, Manitoba and her favorite memory with her siblings was dressing up and going to barn dances together in her hometown. Growing up in Canada, Joyce was always a hard worker. She worked in a hardware store, a Chinese restaurant, and babysat children, which she didn't know would prepare her to be the best grandma in the world. Joyce met her late husband, Halford Womack when she came to the United States and on April 24, 1952, they got married. They were married 52 years before he passed away in 2007. Joyce and Halford had three children: Virginia, Kathelene, and Wesley Womack. This was the start of Joyce's legacy because today she has 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Joyce played a huge role in all of our grandchildren's lives and was the true definition of unconditional love. When asked what her best talent was she responded "loving her grandchildren" and we all know that she did that the best. She helped create a loving space for her grandchildren to play and they were never afraid to fall down or make mistakes, because they knew their Grandma would always be there to pick them back up. Joyce enjoyed laughing at her favorite comedians, Chris and Emma, playing cards, going on walks, eating Chinese food, and watching baseball, usually closely accompanied by her children or grandchildren. Joyce's favorite Bible verse was John 13: 34-35, which commands us to love one another, and she prioritized living her life this way. The one thing that Joyce wanted to make sure people remembered about her is that she was a loving grandma who would do anything for her grandkids. She walked everywhere and enjoyed doing puzzles.   She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Terry Lynn Womack, brothers, Frank, Harold, Clifton, Fred, and Bob; sisters, Betty, Jean, Shirley and great-granddaughter, Riley E. Rochell.  Surviving are her daughters, Kathlene Fish and husband Anthony of Linden, NC and Virginia Vuncannon and husband Gary of Lillington, NC.  Son, Wesley Womack of Broadway, NC; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
