Larry Gene Johnson, age 85 of Sanford, passed away on Sunday, September 7th, 2025.  Born May 29th, 1940,, to the late Wade and Sadie Johnson, Larry was proud to be born and raised in Harnett County, NC.  He was a 1958 graduate of Benhaven School.  Larry led a life rooted in hard work, faith and family.  He devoted his life to farming and had more hours on a Farmall 140 tractor than anyone around.  He found joy in tending the land, rising with the sun, and working with his hands. The fields he cared for were a reflection of his dedication, perseverance, and love of nature.  Larry could take you back in time with all the stories he enjoyed telling about his life experiences.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Thomas Johnson of the home;  daughter, Rhonda (Russ) Hughes of Sanford, NC;  son, Paul (Amy) Johnson of Sanford, NC; grandchildren, Brittany (Kenny) Pope of Broadway, Logan (Caitlyn) Hughes of Clayton and Abby Johnson of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Pope, Charleston Pope, Carter Hughes and Levi Hughes; sister, Polly Genthe of Broadway, NC  and brother, Clark Johnson of Broadway, NC.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Pope and brothers, Rex Johnson and John Allen Johnson.  Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday (9/10/2025) at 2:00pm at the Morris Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev.
