Linda Gayle Jungkind, age 79, of Broadway passed away at Parkview Retirement Center on January 20, 2026. She was born June 21, 1946 in Oxnard, California, daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Watkins. She was preceded in death by her parents. As a young girl, Gayle was involved in 4-H and grew up on a truck farm. She loved to go camping on Lake Ouachita in Arkansas, was a phenomenal cook, loved to sew, and was a talented decorator. Gayle loved her country, and was very patriotic. She served as a volunteer at her church and was very involved in the ministry for the local homeless shelter.   She loved a hot cup of coffee and enjoyed sitting beside a hot fire. She and her husband moved from Arkansas to North Carolina to be closer to their daughter Betsy and her family.  She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Bernie Jungkind III, of the home; daughter Betsy Jungkind McNeill and husband Daniel of Broadway and one grandson, Colton McNeill.  A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday (1/22/2026) at 11 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Daniel McNeill officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial gifts be made in Gayle's memory to The Samuel J.
