Louis Willard "Sonny" Hess Jr., age 71 of Cameron, passed away on Tuesday (5/2/2023) at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington. He was born at US Naval Hospital Livermore, California on Oct. 16, 1951, and was the son of the late Louis Willard Hess Sr. and Alice Jo Blake Hess. Louis retired from the United States Marine Corp at the rank of CWO-3 having served twenty years. He was a member of the Ko'olau Lodge F.& A.M. in Kailua, HI, loved football and watching old western movies. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, (5/6/2023) at 2:00pm at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Rev. Chris Pipes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home from 1-2pm. Surviving is his wife, Cynthia Hess of the home. Step-Daughters, Kimberly Williams (James) of Aberdeen, NC and Karen Odom of Rockingham, NC. Step-sons, Bruce Odom (Jessica) of Sanford, NC, Jonathan Odom of Sanford, NC, Donald Hart (Linda) of Bear Creek, NC, and Charles Hart (Marylin) of Chapel Hill, NC. Sister, Carrol Hendrix of St. Mary, Ohio, brother Russell Hess (Mary Ann) of West Virginia, several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
