Mary Emma Lanier Dowd, age 83 of Broadway, died Sunday (3/31/2013) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Thomas William David Lanier and Alberta Howard Lanier. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank Sloan, Daughters Alberta Wilson and Sandy Cole, granddaughter Patricia Kim Morris and her brothers Thomas, Blue and Waldo Lanier. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Moore Union Christian Church Cemetery. Surviving are her daughters Deborah Perez and Pat Morris both of Broadway, NC and Christy Sloan of the home; Son Ronald Frank "Scooter" Sloan of Broadway, NC; nine grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and other times at the home of Deborah Perez. Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
