Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Thomas Simmons, age 55 of Sanford, died Saturday (3/9/2013) at her home. She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Len Broughton Thomas and Beulah Johnson McClung Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eric Simmons and daughter Jo Leigh Simmons. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Parsons and Ray Hockaday officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Surviving is her daughter Erica Leigh Simmons Knapp of Cameron, NC; Sister Carol Jean Thomas of Sanford, NC; Brothers Len Broughton Thomas Jr. of Broadway, NC and Conrad Wayne Thomas of Columbia, SC; Two grandchildren Haley Jo Simmons and Ava Nicole Knapp. Three nieces and five nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway. Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
