Merle Allan Johnston, age 82 of Sanford, passed away on Sunday (3/29/2020) at his home.  He was born on March 31, 1937, son of the late Thomas Gaylord Johnston and Emma Cordelia Packer Johnston.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Betty Jean Thompson Johnston.  There will be no services held.  Surviving are his sons Brian Johnston of Sanford, NC and David Johnston of California.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
