Mildred Cummings Matthews, age 84 of Sanford passed away at her home on Saturday (5/16/2015). She was born in Harnett Co. on Sept. 30, 1930, daughter of the late Thomas Hinson Cummings and Zula Inez Thomas Cummings. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marion Lanier and brother Caviness Cummings .Graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday(5/19/2015) at 11:30 AM at the Shallow Well United Church of Christ Cemetery with Elder Edward "Pee Wee" Taylor, Officiating. She is survived By her husband of sixty-eight years, Edwin L. Matthews of the home. Daughter Gilda M. Burns of Broadway; Son Barry L. Matthews of Sanford, Three sisters, Helen Giles and Vivian Simpson both of Sanford and Geneva Larson of Southern Pines, Four Grandchildren, Jonathan Matthews, Barry Matthews Jr., Jessica Burns Stone and Laura Matthews Burns. Three Great-Grandchildren, Dani Stone, Jaiden Morton and Sophia Rae Matthews. The family will be receiving friends at the home. Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
