Monroe Smith, age 80 of Sanford, NC, passed away on Sunday (7/2/2023) at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.  He was born on May 5, 1943, son of the late Jessie James Smith and Flossie Mae Smith.  He was preceded in death by parents, sons, Daniel Smith, Paul David Smith and siblings, Gene Smith, Trudy Ann English, Flora Dell Smith, Sam Smith, James Ralph Smith, Everette Smith, and Janie Bonnett.  Monroe enjoyed going fishing, camping, and boating.  He loved being around people, playing the guitar, yodeling, and being retired.  He is survived by his wife, Kate Smith of the home.  Daughters, Julie Warner of Richmond, VA, Dee Scott of Laurinburg, NC and son, Monroe Smith Jr. of Sanford, NC.  Sisters, Mary Magdalene Smith Yates of High Point, NC and Edna Earl McDonald of Hamlet, NC.  Brother, Charles Lee Smith of Richmond, VA , daughter in law, Julie Smith of Sanford, NC; fourteen grandchildren and numerous great grand children.
