Penny Jo Stitt, age 79 of Broadway, passed away on Thursday (7/20/2023) at the Duke Home Care and Hospice Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. She was born on September 8, 1943, daughter of the late Harold Herman Cochran and Helen Gugler Cochran. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald Cochran, husband, Gerald "Jerry" Stitt and step-daughter, Debra Wilson. Penny was a proud Air Force wife who loved her family and was a huge Elvis fan. Later in life she enjoyed all the rewarding work she did in the hospital, working with the doctors. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm Wednesday (7/26/2023) at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial will follow on Thursday (7/27/2023) at 1:00pm at Peninsula Memorial Park in New Port News, VA. Surviving is her daughter, Jeri Johnson of Dallas, Texas. Step-children, Randall Stitt of Atlanta, GA, Shaness Farrell of Princeton, NJ and Andree Robinson of Whittier, NC. Sister, Carol Jones and husband Kenny of Broadway, NC. Grandson, Cody Johnson; step-grandchildren, Virginia Farrell, Susan Farrell, Kelly Lehmann, Blair Russo, Clayton Robinson, Brandee Robinson, Janel Mortenson, Kelsey McKeaige; one great- grandchild and nine step-great grandchildren. Nephew, Richard Jones of Melbourne, Florida. Nieces, Teresa Jones Hobbs of Bahama, NC and Tammy Jones Turner of Clayton, NC. Great nieces and nephews, Taylor Hobbs, Delaney Hobbs, Lindsay Pantinakis, Grant Jones, Brody Turner, and special friends, Jolene and Brian Boyt. Memories of Penny will always be of the bond we had the many years of our lives- we were blessed to have each other. Rest in Jesus arms and in your beloved Virginia next to Jerry now. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in memory of Penny to the Duke Home Care and Hospice Hock Family Pavilion, 4023 North Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27704.
