Rev. Ramon Elwood Atkins Jr, age 81 of Broadway, passed away on Thursday, (10/19/2023) at Sanford Health and Rehab.  He was born on December 8, 1941, son of the late Ramon Elwood Atkins and Estelle Jones Atkins McDaniel.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son Ramon Elwood Atkins III., and his sister, Kathy Atkins.  Ramon was a graduate of North Carolina State University Class of 1970 with a degree in Electronics Engineering.  He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and worked for many years with Civil Service at Fort Bragg.  After becoming a Christian, he became a lay speaker, teaching the word and spreading the gospel. He taught bible studies and Sunday school; and after becoming a licensed local pastor, he was called to Cool Springs United Methodist Church where he served as minister since 2008.  He loved to play golf, tinker in his shop and around the farm, and was a blessing to all who knew him.  He is survived by his wife, Donna Dickerson Atkins of the home.  Daughter, Jone Atkins Rose and husband Tommy of Broadway, NC; Son, Randy Atkins and wife Shannon of Broadway, NC and ten grandchildren.  The family will receive friends from 3-4pm Sunday (10/22/2023) at Cool Springs Methodist Church.  The funeral service will be at 4:00pm Sunday with Rev. Thomas Simpson and Rev.
