Ramon Elwood Atkins III, age 54 of Broadway, died Monday (10/28/2019) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.  He was born on February 21, 1965, son of Ramon Elwood Atkins Jr. and Donna Dickerson Atkins.  He was a graduate of Western Harnett High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid Duke fan and loved Duke Basketball games.    Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm Sunday at the Cool Springs United Methodist Church in Broadway with Rev. Duncan Jones and Rev. Bobby Herring officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Surviving are his parents Rev. Ramon Atkins and Donna Atkins of Broadway.  Sister Jone Atkins Rose and husband Thomas of Japan, brother Randal Atkins and wife Shannon of Broadway and ten nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends from 2-3pm Sunday at the Cool Springs United Methodist Church, 2741 Cool Springs Road, Broadway, NC 27505, one hour prior to the funeral service.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorials are made to the Cool Springs United Methodist Church, PO Box 617 Mamers, NC  27552 or to the Wounded Warrior Project.    Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
