Rebecca Anne Brown Phillips, age 85 of Sanford, passed away on Wednesday (6/8/2022) at her home.  She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Paul James Brown Sr. and Hazel Wicker Brown.  She was married to the true love of her life, the late Roger Eugene Phillips on June 27, 1954 until his death in 2015.  Anne was a member of Poplar Springs United Methodist Church and started playing the piano for the church when she was fourteen.  She also served as the organist and choir director for decades.  She retired from Central Carolina Community College where she was employed as an Administrative Assistant in the Continuing Education Department.  She loved the beach, spending time with her family, collecting dolls and working with her church family during the fall and springs festivals.  Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm Sunday at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Fallon Melvin and Rev. Garland Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Surviving are her sons, Roger Eugene Phillips Jr. and wife Annette of Burlington, NC and Richard "Rick" Paul Phillips and wife Jan of Bear Creek, NC.  Brother, Jimmy Brown and wife Frances of Sanford, NC; Sisters, Peggy Gaster of Sanford, NC and Martha Rasmussen and husband Roy of New Bern, NC.  Grandchildren, Blair Nail, Jennifer Williams, Casey Phillips, Keith Phillips, Jeremy Diven; Great-grandchildren, Will Phillips, Walt Phillips, Hadley Nail, Dax Nail, Margie Williams, Etta Lou Phillips and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Saturday at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Poplar Springs United Methodist Church Choir.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
