Richard Eugene Campbell Sr., age 65 of Sanford, died Sunday (1/10/2016) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was born in Lee County, and was the son of the late Raeford James Campbell and Exhelle Flowers Barbour. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his birth mother Mary Joyce Campbell Barbour. He was retired from Kelly Springfield and was employed by C&C Holding. He enjoyed wood working and auto mechanic work. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Presnal, Rev. Sammy Hall, and Rev. Curtis Norris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife of 45 years Opal T. Campbell of the home; Daughters Amanda Lee Johnson and husband Chris of Sanford, NC and Mary Nicole Campbell of Sanford, NC; Sons Richard Eugene Campbell Jr. and Raymond Campbell both of Sanford, NC; Sisters Merle Hall of Sanford, NC and Teresa Barefoot and husband Ricky of Cohair, NC; Brothers Perry Campbell of Sanford, NC, Dan Barbour and wife Deborah of Sanford, NC David Barbour and Mary of Sanford, NC and Tommy Barbour of Angier, NC and his step father Bobby Barbour and wife Mary of Sanford, NC; and eight grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.
