Richard Thomas Gillis, age 68 of Sanford, passed away on Thursday, (10/19/2023) at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born to the late Lacy Dixon Gillis and Eunice Thomas Gillis.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Daniel Thomas Gillis, brother L.D. Gillis, sister, Juanita Gillis McDuffie.  Richard enjoyed landscaping and tending the family farm where he was raised and in turn raised his children and watched  his grandchildren grow.  His creative vision brought new life to the farm through Broken Plow Farm and Daniel's Ridge.  He shaped the farm into a gorgeous landscape that has created countless memories for not only his family and friends but his community. There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they are gone, the light remains.  Surviving is his wife, Debra Whitfield Gillis of the home.  Daughter, Amanda Gillis Anderson and husband Todd of Sanford, NC.  Sister, Lois Gillis White of Florida; brother, James Royce Gillis and wife Virginia of Sanford, NC; Grandchildren, Ryleigh Anderson, Peyton Anderson and "adoptive" granddaughter, Meriwether Lewis.  A celebration of life service and reception will be held at Daniel's Ridge, on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2:00pm with Rev. Douglas Currin and Rev. J.
