Robert Lee Butler age 58, of Lillington formally of Broadway, passed away on September 19, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 6, 1968 in Lee County, son of Vester Lee Butler Jr. and Betty Ethel McLeod Butler. He was preceded in death by his father, Vester Lee Butler Jr., granddaughter Barbara Anna Lynn Hunt and sister, Judy Woodell. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Melody Laine Ivey Butler of the home; his daughters, Marcia Lynn Butler (James Kelly Hunt) of Lillington, Robin Marie Butler (Donald Oxendine) of Summerville, SC and his son, Johnny Lee Butler of Broadway, NC; grandsons, James Moss, Nathanel Moss, Cooper Moss, Jayden Stewart, Carter White; granddaughter Juilianna Granter and great-granddaughter, Emerald Raye Moss. Also surviving are his mother; Betty McLeod Butler of Broadway, NC; sisters; Bobbie Jean Martinsen (Brian), Elizabeth B. Granter (Don) of Broadway, NC, Kay Huskett of Broadway; brothers, Jimmy Ray Pruitt (Kim) of Agra, OK, Anthony “Tony” Butler (Kim) of Wilmington, NC, Mark Butler(Patricia) of Broadway, NC and Jerry Lemmons (Margaret) of Broadway, NC. Robert worked for many years in industrial maintenance as a Millwright. He enjoyed being around the water whether swimming, fishing or frog gigging. Robert’s first “true love” was working on cars which fit well with his love of NASCAR and Earnhardt. Sunday afternoons were perfect for entertaining and bringing family, friends together. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday September 26, 2026 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Broadway beginning at 2:00 pm with Pastor Rice officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.
