Ruby McGehee Poukka, age 83 of Sanford, died Friday, January 14, 2022, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.  She was born on May 23, 1938, daughter of the late Luther Byron McGehee, who was lay minister to many, and Betty Lee Carter McGehee.  She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Sandra McKay and her eleven brothers and sisters.  Ruby was the youngest of twelve children.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Surviving is her husband of 46 years, Dennis Duane Poukka of the home.  Daughters, Kathy Lynn Johnson and Belinda Thomas of Sanford, NC.  Son, James Edward Johnson of Charlotte, NC.  Twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made in memory of Ruby to CARA- Carolina Animal Rescue or to the Lee County Animal Shelter.
