Sarah Mason Dickens, 80, of Jarvisburg,NC died Friday (11/09/2012) in Chesapeake, Virginia. She was born on May 7, 1932, daughter of the late Derwood and Louise Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years Braxton L. Dickens. She was a graduate of Sanford Central High School, Class of 1951 and retired from C&P Telephone Company after 36 years of service. She was an active member of the Poplar Branch Baptist Church in Jarvisburg, NC and she served her community as director of the local senior center for six years. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Friday at the Juniper Springs Baptist Church in Sanford, NC with Rev. John Hackney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are her sisters Marie Carper of Williamsburg, VA and Betty Thornburg of Chesapeake, VA; Brother James Mason of Charlottesville, VA ; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many dear friends in the Jarvisburg community, her church, and her Sunday School Class. Her generosity of spirit, kindness and loving nature will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family will receive friends from 7-8pm Thursday evening at the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
