Shelby Jean McNeill McLeod, age 75 of Sanford, died Monday (8/11/2014) at her home. She was born in Harnett County, daughter of the late Robert Martin McNeill and Adelaide Buchanan McNeill. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John McLeod, daughter Susan Louise McLeod and an infant daughter. She was a member of the Jonesboro United Methodist Church and was an active walker around the Jonesboro area. She had many good Samaritans who gave her rides safely to her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm Wednesday at the Jonesboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Hunter Preston and Rev. Doug Houston officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pisgah Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Surviving are her son Jeffrey McLeod of Sanford, NC; Sisters Barbara McNeill Kelly of Sanford, NC, Judy McNeill Cox of Sanford, NC and Bonnie McNeill Gaster of Broadway NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2 pm at the Jonesboro United Methodist Church and other times at the family home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations are made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 1005 Carthage St. Sanford, NC 27330. The family would like to thank all of the Good Samaritans who got Shelby Jean safely home. Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
