Vernell (Nell) Smith, age 95 of Robbins, passed away on Saturday (2/26/2022) at First Health Hospice Center in Pinehurst.  She was born on May 22, 1926, daughter of the late Iverson Payne Smith and Sarah Elizabeth Stephenson Smith.  She was preceded in death by her parents, eleven brothers and sisters and her husband William Swanson Maness.  Nell was a sweet lovely lady, mom and grandma.  She had a beautiful smile, loved her friends at Providence Place and Westmore Center, who were like her family.  She loved animals, loved the Lord and drove her car until she was 94 years old.  Graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2pm Wednesday at Pinerest Cemetery with Rev. Sammy McNeill officiating.  Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Joyce Tyner and husband Floyd of North Carolina, Barbara Smith of South Carolina and Lisa Hendrickson and husband Bobby of Georgia.  Son, Larry Gross and wife Joyce of Georgia. Sisters, Helen Hicks and Irene Pridgen and husband Mike of Florida.  Brother, Gene Smith of Florida, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great- grandchildren and 8 step-grandchildren.  Friends may visit the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway on Tuesday between the hours of 12pm-5pm and on Wednesday from 9am-11:30am,  to sign the register and pay their respects.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
